Fall 2017 brought a new wave of conferences, with our graduate students representing Cornell Linguistics.
Carol-Rose Little attended the Twelfth International Tbilisi Symposium on Language, Logic and Computation, held in Lagodekhi, Georgia in September, presenting “Cardinal/ordinal meaning ambiguities in possessed numeral constructions in Ch'ol.” Joseph Rhyne attended the Linguistics Conference at the University of Georgia in October, presenting “The South Slavic dialect continuum: Political division driving linguistic change?” At the 25th Japanese/Korean Linguistics Conference in Hawaii in October, Hitomi Minamida presented “Pronoun-external doubly-headed relative clauses in Japanese and Korean: New data from Osaka Japanese” and Changguk Yim Ph.D. ’04 presented “A Configurational approach to the light verb Ha- ellipsis in Korean.”
Cornell was also represented at the 29th Annual UCLA Indo-European Conference in November. Presenters included:

Cornell was well represented at the Linguistic Society of America Annual Meeting in Salt Lake City. Presenters included:

Also, shout-out to our UnderLing president José Armando Fernandez Guerrero and former UnderLing Christian Brickhouse B.A. ’17 for taking the time to volunteer at the LSA.
The inaugural meeting of the Society for Computation in Linguistics, a “sister society” of the Linguistic Society of America, was held as part of the LSA Annual Meeting. Shohini Bhattasali presented with John T. Hale, Wen-Ming Luh, R. Nathan Spreng, Christophe Pallier (INSERM-CEA Cognitive Neuroimaging Unit, France), and Jonathan R. Brennan (University of Michigan). Their presentation was titled “Differentiating Phrase Structure Parsing and Memory Retrieval in the Brain.”
