Linguistics Minor Declaration Form

Submitting this form is the first step in declaring a minor in Linguistics. Before completing the form, please review all requirements of the minor at https://linguistics.cornell.edu/undergraduate.

The form will be recevied by our Undergraduate Coordinator and will be shared with our Director of Undergraduate Studies. You will receive an email confirmation at your Cornell email address.

The minor in linguistics requires five courses in linguistics or courses approved or the linguistics major. Read all requirements at https://linguistics.cornell.edu/undergraduate. The minimum grade for courses applied to the linguistics minor is C-.

Minimum of 18 credits, including:

  • LING 1101 - Introduction to Linguistics
  • At least one other foundation course:
    • LING 3302 - Introduction to Phonetics and Phonology
    • LING 3303 - Introduction to Syntax and Semantics
    • LING 3314 - Introduction to Historical Linguistics
  • Three additional linguistics courses (of 3 credits or more) meeting the following conditions:
    • at least 1 of these must be at the 3000 level or above
    • no more than 1 of these may be at the 1000 level
